Electricity Saving Tips for Victoria BC Residents
0
Many Victoria residents face the same challenge when it comes to this time of year. How exactly do we save money on our electricity bill? Well let’s be honest the first thing we have to do is be thankful we don’t live somewhere like Alberta where the temperatures can reach -30 degrees celsius. In Victoria are harshest of winters usually won’t go past -10 degrees. Here are some expert tips on how to shave a few bucks off your electric bill this coming winter.
1. When No Ones Home Turn Off the Heat
Sounds pretty obvious right? but most families tend to leave the heat on all throughout the day even when they are at work. This only results in one thing, and that is a sky high electric bill. If no one is going to be home for more than 2 hours we recommend that you shut off your heating or at the very least put it to a minimum until your return home. Bundle up in some warm clothes for the first 20 minutes when you return back to the house while the house warms up again. This little tip could save you a good $100 this winter!
2. Shut Off Vampire Electronics
Tons of electronics in your home suck on power even when they are not turned on or operating. A good example of this is things like your TV, DVD Player, Computer, etc. When these devices or electronics are not being used make sure you have them turned off so they aren’t draining any extra power out of the house. The best solution is to actually put them on power bars and shut them all off with one hit of that fatal red switch!
3. Look for Air Leaks in the House
People can own a home for over 50 years without this idea ever crossing their mind but you would be surprised how important it is. A small crack in a window or a broken seal on a door can result in your home becoming unbearably freezing. Once a year you should take the time to walk around and check the seals of your windows and doors to make sure there isn’t any major leaks. Whats the point of paying for baseboard heaters if all the warmth is bleeding out through a broken window. Fixing all small leaks using rubber sealers or by replacing the broken window or door can make a major difference on your electric bill.
Hopefully these tips can help you save a few extra dollars this coming christmas season. Make sure you put those dollars to good use (buy your kids some more gifts!)
